The history of Museum Night

This event was created in 1999 first under the name “Museum Spring” following the Berlin event “Large Nacht des Museen”. Museum Night opened in 2001 to all museums in 39 member countries of the Council of Europe. It is placed under the patronage of the Council of Europe, the French National Commission for UNESCO and the International Council of Museums (ICOM). Today, the leadership of the organization is given to the Ministry of Culture of each participant. In 2005, it was finally renamed “European Museum Night”. Its objective is of course obvious: to reveal to citizens the riches of French and European heritage in a different light… at night.

L'avis de Lucile

Lucile's opinion

I like the idea of discovering in another way a place that I already know, usually open in a “formal” way. The charm of nightfall combined with festive, surprising and unusual programming make this national event a must at the start of spring!
