Alice Taverne (1904-1969) created a museum showing life in our countryside. Go into the village grocery store, browse the peasant's house, the classroom or the bonesetter's lair and share the daily life of our ancestors.

Opened to the public in 1951, the museum bears the name of its creator, Alice Taverne (1904 - 1969) whose investigations into local customs date back to the 1930s. It surprises visitors with the diversity and richness of its collections presented on three levels in an 1840th century mansion. The intimate dimension of this residence contributes to giving the reconstructed interiors an authentic character: the peasant room with its central hearth, the village grocery store, the inn; the seamstress's workshop, the surgeon's room, the bone-setter's mysterious corner or the classroom. The furniture, the presentation of clothing styles, the memories of secular or religious festivals, as well as the agricultural and artisanal equipment, reflect life in the Roannaise and Forézienne countryside between 1940 and XNUMX.

A game booklet is available at reception (€ 2) offering children a fun and informative visit!
