A famous European cultural route, the Via Sancti Martini was inaugurated in 2016, on the occasion of the 1700e Saint Martin's birthday. It crosses Europe from East to West over 2500 km. The path crosses Roannais for more than 80 km.

The Via Sancti Martini between Loire and Allier

The Chemin de Saint-Martin crosses the Roanne territory of Saint-Georges-de-Baroille Asked Reaches, or approximately 80 km. The route alternates between mountains and plains. Thus, it promises timeless good times discovering the beautiful landscapes of these territories.

The mounts of the Madeleine represent the transition between the Loire and Allier departments. It is then the paths of Vichy Destinations which the Via Sancti Martini crosses.

Guide 2024 : Via Sancti Martini

For 2024, Roannais Tourism and Vichy Destinations collaborated on a new common guide “Via Sancti Martini, roaming and hiking”.

Indeed, this 20-page guide details the entire route between Loire and Allier with the mounts of the Madeleine as a transition point between the two territories.

There are 7 stages and nearly 160 km of marked circuits which lead to the heritage treasures of the trail, sometimes unknown to the general public.

The guide, published in 1000 copies, was previewed during the Hiker's Show in Lyon from March 22 to 24.
