Le Gué de la Chaux is located on the borders of Forez and Bourbonnais and at the junction of the departments of Allier, Loire and Puy-de-Dôme.
Benefiting from relative isolation, it has welcomed maquis of various geographical and political origins.

An important commemorative monument recalls the memory of the maquis and its dead. A stele is erected on the site of the fighting at the place of La Chaux.

On July 22, 1944, the day of Saint Madeleine, SS and militiamen by the then deforested Mépart, assault the Madeleine where the resistance from Camp Barriquand are held. The sacrifice of the sentries will allow the Maquisards to stall through the woods. Crosses mark the place of their post of glory. Leroy and Bérard, Forge (16 years old) and Lau, Quatrepoint. On July 24, Genevrier was killed trying to join the camp where everything was set on fire. There were other victims: Dépalle and his son who died in deportation, Captain Bardet whom they were hiding in their farm, shot, Dégoulange, who died in 1947 as a result of the tortures suffered ...
