Located in the north of Roannais, the forest of Lespinasse is a sensitive natural area composed largely of leafy trees such as oak and hornbeam. Forest ponds and ponds are perfect places to observe amphibians and odonates. Along the paths, the oaks will show the traces of the passage of woodpeckers, mammals, and stag beetles.
The forest is also the place of use for carrying out various leisure activities: hiking or cycling on marked paths, fishing on the ponds of Pierrards and Bouletière. Many walks are offered, ranging from 45 min to 4 hours of walking. The "president oak" trail is equipped for people with reduced mobility.
The site also has a covered building accessible on request from the Department.
This forest is exploited for its wood. Indeed, within the framework of a public contract, the National Office of Forests is responsible for the management and operation of the site. To respect the natural space, this organization has set up a management system that respects the environment.
The site hosts schools or social centers for activities on the theme of the forest, ponds or the various ecosystems present. From 2024, access to these activities is based on a call for projects: "Ligerians by nature".
The Department organizes over the summer period, from July to August, animations. The large covered remains open during this period from Wednesday to Sunday. The program is available at www.loire.fr/rdvens.
