Parigny is a French commune located in the Loire department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.

All year round: open every day.

In 1789, PARIGNY was a parish in Beaujolais, archpriest of Roanne, election of Villefranche, province of Lyonnais. Its territory, including the hamlet of Coteau-en-Beaujolais, was crossed by the "great royal road from Paris to Lyon" which became successively "imperial road no. 7" then "national road no. 7".

Passing from one bank to the other of the Loire, between Roanne and Parigny, was difficult for a long time due to the absence of a bridge.

It was not until 1626 that work on the first wooden bridge began: washed away by floods in 1641, repaired in 1643, it was completely destroyed at the end of 1657, rebuilt in 1675, it disappeared during the flood of 1681! Until 1750, a ferry with trail provided the only passage. On this date, a double bridge, still in wood, was executed: the first connected the town of Roanne to Isle, spanning the Loire which then flowed at the bottom of the port of Roanne, near the Saint-Nicolas chapel (dating from 1630); the second starting from Isle joined Le Coteau by crossing a secondary arm of the river (where the water only passed in times of flood).

At the end of 1790, a new flood removed everything. A stone bridge was then started in 1792, on the part going from Isle to Coteau. Due to the circumstances, the work was very slow. Napoleon, passing through Roanne in 1814, to go to the Island of Elba, was surprised by the mayor François POPULLE: "The money has not yet failed", he told him. "Sire, it is true," he was told, "but the leeches were in great numbers!" ".

The current "Coteau bridge" (which is however entirely in the territory of Roanne) was finally delivered to traffic after forty two years of work, in May 1834.

But, for centuries, the life of the inhabitants of the parish of PARIGNY residing on Le Coteau-en-Beaujolais, and the people of Roanne "in the Isle of Roanne" or even "on the Coteau in the Isle of Roanne" was intimately melee.

On December 13, 1836, Le Coteau was established as a separate parish from that of Roanne. We were thus moving towards municipal independence, which was consecrated by the signing of King LOUIS-PHILIPPE, on July 9, 1845, of a decree stipulating that "the Coteau section is separated from the commune of Parigny... and erected in a separate municipality.

Henceforth the history of the two communes was separated.
