This magnificent Renaissance building from the end of the XNUMXth century and the beginning of the XNUMXth century is a superb example of the civil architecture of this period.

All year, every day.

Decorative elements are visible on the ornate tympanum of the front door where the figures of Adam and Eve are carved in yellow limestone, while the staircase turret is adorned with the coat of arms of the Mure Chantois.
Interior visit on request.

Inside, in the René Robert room, an interesting fireplace listed in the “Historic Monuments” presents two versions of the same face, a smiling version and a grimacing version.

When the municipality of Saint-Jean-le-Puy was created in 1893, the village of Saint-Maurice-sur-Loire no longer had premises to house its town hall, the municipal territory having been divided. The municipality decided to move into the Manor until 1974, when the building became an annex town hall.
The mansion is today the head office of the Friends of Saint-Jean-Saint-Maurice-sur-Loire association.

History
The La Mure Chantois family, lord captains of Saint-Maurice, abandoned the cold and austere castle of the fortress to build this terraced mansion, comfortable and well oriented to the south.

After the Revolution, the manor was sold in lots and in 1852, Mr. Nigay, who owned the east wing, donated his lot to the municipality so that it could set up a school there.
The western part of the building was in poor condition: instead of undertaking repairs, the city council decided to destroy the damaged part. The open area thus became a playground for schoolchildren and the staircase turret was highlighted.
