According to a text from the year 1153, the town was placed under the protection of Saint Léger, former bishop of Autun, whose name has been given to several parishes of this diocese: St Léger sur Roanne.

All year round, daily from 9 a.m. to 17 p.m.

If the chapel of St-Léger appears to be one of the oldest places of worship in Roanne, the current church was built in the 12th century. This church almost disappeared around 1824 at the same time as the town. For 84 years, the commune of St-Léger no longer existed: by royal decree, it was unified with Pouilly-les-Nonains and St-Martin-de-Boisy.
But the law on the separation of churches and state was to allow St-Léger to regain its rights and independence. They ended up obtaining on March 28, 1914 the reestablishment of their municipality and then by right the restitution of the legacy of 1821.
The church contains an altarpiece in carved painted and gilded wood from the 16th century. Above the portal, the statue of St-Léger is a work of Gabriel Goutard and dates from 1941.
The stained glass windows were made by Louis Payet from Lyon. The transformations of the 20th century redesigned the exterior of the church, however retaining the ogival door.
