Saint Alban was initially attached to Saint André. The development of the hydromineral spring and the distance of "more than a league" from the parish church of Saint André led the inhabitants to request the creation of a separate parish.
The construction of the church began in 1862 on the plans of the Roanne architect Jules Michaud. All the people of Saint Alban contributed to the building of their church; the rich and the landowners by their deniers and the wagons, the day laborers by the work of their hands. Saint Alban was erected in Parish on March 18, 1865 by imperial decree, then in Commune on April 28, 1866 by decree of the Council of State. The blessing of the church is done during the feast of the Holy Rosary on October 1, 1865. The bells (1890-1893) come from the Lyon workshops of Burdin Elder. The grand staircase was built in 1897 according to the plans of the Roanne architect Magnin. A relic of Saint Alban (fragment of bone) from Troyes, received the blessing of Mgr Vindry, vicar general, on June 4, 1899.
Our Lady of the Valley, currently in the right nave of the church, was first installed in 1871 under a small shelter on a rock in the so-called Desert Valley. On September 7, 1873, the population of Saint Alban placed themselves under his protection. On August 1, 1939, the statue was classified as a "Historic Monument". Returned to the town in 1996 by the new Mineral Waters Company, the statue of Notre Dame de la Vallée entered the church on August 15th.
