All year, every day.
Located on the hill of Barbet (alt. 815 m), the chapel of La Salette enjoys one of the most beautiful panoramas on the Roanne plain and well beyond since it is said to be able to count 58 bell towers and that it is frequent to admiring Mont Blanc and the Alps. The municipality has installed an orientation table to the right of the rock.
The statuary monument was erected in 1877 on the initiative of Abbé Thévenet, following a pilgrimage to La Salette in the Alps with his parishioners. The chapel was inaugurated on August 16, 1883, a date which gave rise to an annual pilgrimage. It is permanently open to the public and flowered and maintained regularly; numerous donations enable renovation work to be carried out there.
From the point of view of the flora, we find here pulsatile anemones, beautiful garnet-colored flowers, with a characteristic scent, which grow at altitude, in acid soil. Please do not pick them, they are rare.
Good to know: obligation to park in the car park at 4 tilleuls (indicated on site) except for people with reduced mobility.
A pleasant walk to access the site passes in front of the megalith of the Grotte du Poyet. Possibility of making a loop by taking the “petit tour de la Salette” indicated on site and which will bring you back to the car park.
