All year, every day.
It is contemporary with the Chapel of Grézolles and was also built by Claude Raybe d'Urfé, Lord of Saint Marcel, in the same late Gothic style.
This place was to serve as his tomb, but he was finally buried in Notre-Dame de Montbrison, of which he was the canon.
While originally it only consisted of the current choir and apse, the Chapel owes its strange cruciform plan to the three naves which were added during expansion work in the XNUMXth century.
Inside you can admire a superb Virgin and Child in alabaster classified as a historical monument: "Notre-Dame de la Consolation", which was probably commissioned by Claude Raybe d'Urfé in homage to the Virgin during the epidemic of plague which struck Montbrison in 1507.
It was hidden during the revolution, as well as the polychrome wooden statue of Saint Stephen at the back of the apse.
Also note that the Chapel, located on a hiking trail, is not the only interest of the place because the walk among lime trees and rocks offers a magnificent view of the surroundings.
And in summer, if you feel like it, you can even enjoy the picnic area adjacent to it.
If the chapel is closed, ask for the key at the house next door.
