Musée de France located in Roanne, this museum of fine arts and archeology was created in 1844 and then moved to a private mansion bequeathed to the City by Joseph Déchelette (precursor of archeology, who died in combat in 1914.

Today it offers a rich and varied route from Prehistory to the 10th century, open to non-Western arts (Japan, China, Africa), Egyptian art as well as photography or natural sciences, applied arts (textile , ceramics, furniture) as well as the various classical fields of visual arts (painting, sculpture, drawing, engraving). Long turned towards the contemporary through its temporary exhibitions (from its foundation but also under the direction of Jacques Bornibus, Eric Moinet or Brigitte Bouret) it also has an exceptional library (also open to the public) bearing the name of its founder (Joseph Déchelette) and always remained permanently. It is open Monday to Friday from 12 a.m. to 14 p.m. and from 17 p.m. to XNUMX p.m. (closed Tuesday and weekends).
