Perched on a hill between the Jarnossin and Trambouzan valleys, this village boasts a past steeped in history with its remains such as the Château de La Varenne and the Tour de Morland but above all for having seen the birth of illustrious characters

First Mgr Claude Dubuis (1817-1895), whose body rests in the church. Party to evangelize Texas, he became the 2nd Catholic bishop: every year, dozens of Texans come to honor his memory at Coutouvre.
Then the poet Louis Mercier (1870-1951), author of numerous works.
Finally Jeanne-Marie Chavoin (1786-1858), founder of the Order of Marist Sisters.

An orientation table is installed at the top of the Madone Notre-Dame-de-Prompt-Secours.
Visitors, who will have the courage to climb the sixty-four steps of the staircase, will be able to discover a very beautiful 360° panorama of the Roannais.
