Since April 2021, the edges of the Loire are opening up to you with a new face. This new space, entirely redeveloped over 5 hectares, combines greenery, trails, games and leisure! Roanne and its inhabitants can reconnect with the Loire river and its surroundings. They will become the new "trendy" place in the city.

The lower port, leisure, sport and relaxation areas!

On the banks of the Loire, this space is intended to be dedicated to activities with spaces designed for sport and relaxation. Sports first, with the creation of sports fields: in poured soil, in synthetic turf and another in sand. Basketball, football, volleyball, dance, all sports are possible. Also, a fitness area with equipment is also available to you. It is accessible to people with reduced mobility.

It is often said that water relaxes! At the edge of the river, a large wooden deck of 800 m² has been installed. This space invites you to relax, to have a quiet time at the water's edge with fixed armchairs or deckchairs.

Take a book and read by the water. Laze on the deckchairs, stroll near the water on foot, on a scooter or by bike. This is what this space that inspires la dolce vita offers.

From the banks, a pedestrian link continues along the Renaison. A quiet stroll awaits you!

The upper part, a place for children's walks and games!

The upper part of the banks of the Loire or formerly Place de la Loire has been completely redesigned. She offers you her new face. Accessible to all, it will be the ideal place for a family outing or a welcome break between noon and 12 p.m.

A children's area

We all know that children need to move, jump, play! The edges of the Loire offer this possibility, a complete and secure playground for children and, for parents, a most pleasant environment!

The play area represents 160 linear meters of installed games: slides, swings, turnstiles, zip line… Enough to delight the little Roanne residents!

To refresh you

This summer, during the beautiful scorching days, you can cool off your feet with the long mirror of water of 70 m X 5 m installed on the esplanade.

La passerelle from the banks of the Loire

At the end of the square, a wide wooden footbridge spans the Renaison, at the very spot where this stream flows into the Loire!

This exceptional work of art connects the banks of the Loire to the towpath, very popular for walks or bike rides.

The banks of the Loire, the city's lively place

The development of these greener, more modern spaces, close to water, aims to win back the Roanne people with the Loire river and this part of the city.

With the beauty of its facilities, the municipality wants to make it a real place of life, a place of animation.

For example, Roanne beach will now take place in this space with an entertainment program throughout the summer.

2 very modern kiosks occupy the esplanade and face the park and the river:

  • 1 “Rive Gauche” kiosk : Dedicated to catering, it will open at the beginning of summer from Tuesday to Sunday from 11 am. Opened by pastry chef Clarissou and chef Guillaume Goutaudier, this kiosk promises to tantalize your taste buds. On the menu ? Snacking, plancha, tapas, barbecue, tea room, homemade ice cream, theme evenings, Sunday brunch ...
  • 1 “entertainment” kiosk : The second kiosk dedicated to events in the city of Roanne, will for example be the headquarters of Roanne beach this summer. But also the center of entertainment for the July 14 celebration. There you will find all the information on events and tourist information in Roannais.

As you will have understood, the banks of the Loire will be the new ideal place a stone's throw from the city center for all walks, greenery and festive moments in the city.

Edges of the Loire 2: Towards an urban and landscaped esplanade

After the successful transformation of the banks of the Loire in 2021, the city of Roanne is launching phase 2 of its project to reclaim the river. A greener esplanade to enhance the marina. The edges of the Loire 2 is:

  • A link between city and nature spaces: Square des Martyrs de-la-Résistance and Place Aristide Briand will be linked by a footbridge, accessible to people with reduced mobility,
  • An invitation to walk: The Mariniers esplanade will be transformed, becoming a vast green square lined with clumps of trees. Lighting depending on the seasons is planned to highlight the site,
  • A green lung in the city: As the port regains its vegetation, the planting of woods and alignments (i.e. 120 to 150 additional trees) is expected on the esplanade and on the quays. Objective: Continue the development of the green fabric in the city center and the fight against heat islands.
