The jewelers' biennial or the meeting of art and heritage
Saint-Jean-Saint-Maurice-sur-Loire opens its doors for a weekend to discover the world of jewelry and jewelry.
This atypical exhibition-sale fair is a real showcase for the unique and original creations of artisan jewelers.
This biannual event allows you to combine a heritage visit and a visit to know-how. La Cure, the Métiers d'art center welcomes you and invites you to share the discovery of the singularity of handmade jewelry.
2023 will be the 8e edition, save the date of November 26 and 27 for this unmissable and creative event in Roanne.
During these 2 days, the La Cure boutique will be open continuously from 10 a.m. to 18 p.m.
Jewelery and craftsmanship rooted in the history of Saint-Jean-Saint-Maurice-sur-Loire
In 2009, the cultural center "La Cure" was inaugurated as well as its first workshop intended for the installation of crafts! At that time, there was already an artisan in the village: the workshop of François Allier, a renowned jeweler who works silver. Now retired, her children Aurélien and Noémie have taken over with the “Les Bijoux de l'Oppidum” workshop-boutique. Everyone's desire to honor this craft has led to the creation of the 1st biennial of creative jewelers in 2009. An event which met its audience and has become an unmissable event.

Historically, the jewel was already present in Saint-Jean-Saint-Maurice-sur-Loire, on the other bank, in Joeuvres. In 1911, Joseph Déchelette, famous archaeologist, collected 2 bronze statuettes dating from the 1er century BC. They represent a horse and a boar, sacred animals of Celtic civilization. They are surprisingly sober and fine in detail and bear witness to a bronzier on this site! You can admire the originals at the Joseph Déchelette museum in Roanne.
The biennial of designer jewelers: 2 days of meetings and exchanges
This event, organized by Roannais Agglomération, takes place in an exhibition-sale configuration of a selection of twenty jewelers in the alleys of the village. A format that is intended to be intimate but diverse.
What is an artisanal jewel?
Here, no industrial production! Handcrafted jewelry is made by hand, in a single copy or in a limited series, by a craftsman who works alone or on a human scale.
A handcrafted jewel can just as easily be contemporary, ethnic or historical. In addition, it is always made with a particular and adequate know-how. In addition, it can be made up of many rigorously selected materials which give its originality to the piece: gold, silver, stones but also brass, rubber, glass, feather, leather, wood, recycled materials...
Handcrafted jewelry becomes precious through the work of the craftsman. Whatever material is used for manufacturing, it always has special value.

The price of a designer jewel
If craftsmanship is often associated with luxury, the price of a designer jewel is not necessarily higher than a jewel produced in an industrial way. On the other hand, you buy much more than a simple jewel: you buy a creation with an extra soul, made by hand by a professional and you allow him to continue to create, to perpetuate their know-how.
How are the participants chosen?
Each craftsman of art jewelers creators sends an application file with a presentation of their flagship creation and the techniques worked.
The criteria attracting the attention of the jury are:

- Creativity,
- The quality of the work.

About twenty designers from France or even from abroad are selected to present their collections to you during the biennial.
While strolling in the village, you will therefore appreciate innovative or classic jewelry, precious or fancy. Shapes and materials are available on all trends… There is something for all tastes and all budgets!
You will also be able to observe, learn and even try your hand at creation. Indeed, thanks to the interventions of jewelery professionals: demonstration, workshop, training, conference ...
This unique art will open up to you and will have something to amaze you and make you dream of!

How not to be attracted by this event if I am told to be a village of character and jewelry? The idea of discovering unique hand-crafted jewelry and meeting the person who made it appeals to me. Saint-Jean-Saint-Maurice-sur-Loire is for me the ideal place for this event with the presence of other craftsmen. If I tell you that I fall for each edition and that I never leave empty-handed, would you believe me?
